Cannot access Steam application. Click the icon, nothing happens!

Basically, I recently scanned my computer using MSE.
It found an Adware virus but got rid of it pretty much instantly.

I want to use Steam so I can continue with my online gaming, but when I click the icon (on desktop, start menu & taskbar!) nothing happens.
It does the loading symbol on the pointer but no application opens up.
If i try with my Internet explorer, it works instantly,
but not with the Steam.


I restarted the PC twice to see if this would solve the problem, but the problem persists.
What should I do to repair this?

As per the description, there is no response when you launch Steam application from the desktop and taskbar menu.

Are you aware of making any changes to the computer prior to the issue?
 
This issue is most commonly caused by a third-party application interfering with Steam.

Place the computer in clean boot and check for the issue.

Manually editing the Windows registry to fix Error Cannot access Steam application. Click the icon, nothing happens!

Caution: Unless you an advanced PC user, we DO NOT recommend editing the Windows registry manually. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

• Click the Start button.
• Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
• While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
• You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
• Click Yes.
• A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
• Type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
