My computer will load up Windows and I will have access to my desktop icons for a few minutes and then it freezes up and I can no longer access them.
This reoccurs every time I restart the system. How can I resolve this problem?

Does computer freeze in safe mode?
Windows lock-up could be attributed to various factors such as corrupted or old drivers, conflict between software installed, corrupted system files, hardware failure etc.
Here are few things you can try for now.
Method 1: Perform clean boot
Put your computer in clean boot configuration, restart the computer and see if computer locks up.
If it doesn’t, the problem indicates conflict between Windows components and one of the software installed.

Method 2: Update all the device drivers
Check device manager to see if there’s any error reported.
If so, update driver for that particular device.
Step 1: Check for errors in device manager.
To go to device manager:
a.    Go to start and type device manager.
b.    Select device manager from the control panel list.
c.    From the device list, see if there’s any exclamation mark or error reported.
If so, you can remove the driver related to the device and install a new one.
d.    To do so, right-click on the device and select “Uninstall”.
Step 2: Update driver
Visit the support section of the device manufacturer’s website to get the latest driver.
Mostly this should fix the issue if problem is driver related.

To check for Windows updates

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
